Contact SCSL Officers →Since 1963, the SCSL has been the heartbeat of slow pitch softball in Fall River. Founded by Jack Hackett and kept alive by a community of players, managers, umpires, and volunteers — wooden bats, chalk lines, and all.
The SCSL uses wooden bats by design. More competitive. More honest. The field at Fr. Kelly Park — now officially named the Jack Hackett Softball Field — has seen thousands of games, hundreds of Hall of Famers, and six decades of community bonds built between the chalk lines.

Director & Founder · 1963–2025 · 55 Seasons of Service · Passed December 27, 2025
Jack gave unselfishly from his heart, his talent, his time, and his love of the game. He ran this league for over 50 years. He got me involved in the mid-80s and we did everything together — working the field, emptying barrels, cleaning the mats, putting up signage, keeping the Standing's Board, the dugout boards, the chalk lines.
He took immense pride in assuring that His Field at Fr. Kelly Park was always in game ready condition. His greatest accomplishment was a 4-year endeavor — he applied for and was rewarded a $140,000 grant for new solar-powered metal light poles and a new electric scoreboard. Both completed for the 2025 season.
So when you come to His Field to play a game or to watch one, look up at the lights and scoreboard and say: "Thank you Jack, for all you have done for this Field, the League, and the game of Softball."
R.I.P. You will be greatly missed. 1–4–3, Natalie.

Outstanding outfielder in the 80s and 90s. Great teammate, great on defense. Played for Jack Hackett and Gerry Lima's teams. Well liked by all.
Former ASA Area Commissioner and top-notch SCSL umpire. Did a lot for softball in the Fall River area. A great guy who will be greatly missed.
Outstanding player out of New Bedford. He and his wife Bunny helped build one of the first women's teams at Father Kelly Park.

SCSL — Fall River Slow Pitch Softball League
Player Code of Conduct · 2026 Season
1. Respect for All
Every player, manager, umpire, and spectator deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Harassment, discrimination, or intimidation of any kind will not be tolerated.
2. Sportsmanship
Win with grace, lose with class. Arguing with umpires, taunting opponents, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in ejection and suspension. The umpire's decision is final on the field.
3. Safety First
No player shall engage in reckless play that endangers others. Sliding, collisions, and aggressive base running must be done safely. Any player involved in a physical altercation is immediately ejected and subject to a season suspension.
4. Alcohol & Substances
No alcohol or illegal substances are permitted on the field or in the dugout during games. Players who appear intoxicated will not be permitted to play and may be suspended.
5. Equipment
Only wooden bats approved by SCSL are permitted in the Night League. Using an illegal bat results in an automatic out and possible ejection. All players must wear proper athletic footwear.
6. Eligibility
Players must be registered with SCSL before participating. Playing under a false name or for an ineligible team will result in forfeit of all games and suspension.
7. Field Care
Fr. Kelly Park is our home. Every player is responsible for keeping the field, dugouts, and surrounding areas clean. Pick up after yourself and your team.
8. Commitment
Players are expected to notify their manager in advance if they cannot attend a scheduled game. Repeated no-shows without notice may result in removal from the roster.
9. Social Media
Players shall not post disrespectful, threatening, or defamatory content about other players, umpires, or SCSL officers on social media. Violations may result in suspension.
10. Jack Hackett Legacy
This league was built on community, friendship, and love of the game. Honor the 62-year legacy of Jack Hackett by playing hard, playing fair, and looking out for each other.
